McCall, Idaho holds a special place for me as it is where my husband and I got married. It is also one of the first places I road-tripped when I moved to Boise, Idaho. McCall has something wonderful to offer every season but there is something magical about McCall in the winter. The small-town charm, the beautiful mountains, and the picturesque lake make McCall a unique vacation place and a winter wonderland.

Let’s get to the details in this Ultimate Winter Weekend In McCall, Idaho.

WINTER WEEKEND PLACE TO STAY

THE GLASS HOUSE

We had the opportunity to stay at the Glass House and it was like nothing we had ever stayed in. The design of this house is unreal. The 179 windows that allow you to soak in the gorgeous views of the mountains and lakes are unmatched. We loved staying in the incredible home and the proximity to the center of McCall was exactly what we wanted.

“The Glass House, by Hotel McCall, sits near the heart of McCall Idaho, overlooking Payette Lake. With quick access to town, the lake, Brown Park, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains from the 179 windows throughout the building. It is the perfect venue for a wide variety of events and a unique lodging experience. Named for the 179 windows, The Glass House was originally built in 1960 as the office for Brown Tie and Lumber Co. Today, this iconic building overlooking Payette Lake has been renovated to offer a unique lodging and event space. Come and be a part of its future.

LODGING

Stay lakeside in our flexible three-bed, two-bath property. A flex room with additional sleeping capacity makes this perfect for family and groups of friends. Lodging is booked through our sister property, Hotel McCall. Glass House is a showcase of many of the original features installed in 1960, together with modern upgrades that embrace the fun mid-century modern aesthetic whilst making your stay more comfortable. As befits a building that was built as an office by, and for, the Brown Tie and Lumber Mill, wood is a key feature throughout. Great pains were taken to maintain the integrity of the original finishes. Look out for the Westinghouse heaters, globe lights in the center building, and polished concrete floors.

  • The south building of the Glass House is dedicated to lodging and can sleep up to 8 guests. Inside you will find:
  • 1 King Master Suite with an en suite bathroom
  • 2 Queens with a shared bath
  • 1 Flexi-room with a queen sofa-sleeper
  • A fridge, microwave, tea, and coffee makers
  • This area may be rented as an independent lodging option, or splash out and rent the entire building to have your own “home” complete with a kitchen, living, dining room, and much more. Book through Hotel McCall, which also provides additional lodging options if needed and is only a five-minute walk away.

EVENTS

A special place to entertain. We fell in love with this building because of its distinctive architecture and wonderful history. It is difficult to communicate the potential of this truly unique building. Our flexible, 4,100 square foot space provides a variety of options for any type of event including weddings, art showings, yoga sessions, baby showers, rehearsal dinners, and everything in between. Glass House is the perfect size – small enough for intimate family events, but large enough to house bigger gatherings.

The Glass House has hosted:

  • Pop-up restaurants
  • Wine dinners
  • Live music
  • Corporate retreats
  • Paint and Sip classes
  • Wine tastings
  • 50th birthday parties
  • Family Holiday gatherings
  • Lectures
  • Fundraising events

ACTIVITY BARN

We had the opportunity to visit the Activity Barn for the first time and it blew us away! The location of the barn allows for panoramic views of the valley. The perfect place for date night or with a group of fun friends.

The Activity Barn offers winter fun for the whole family. McCall’s premier snow tubing hill offers freshly groomed lanes, friendly staff, and endless fun! Take a ride on the Magic Carpet conveyor belt to lap the hill in just 7 minutes!
