How Much Do Chocolate-Covered Strawberries Cost?

I get asked this question frequently as well as why I would want to make this recipe instead of just buying them. Here is what I have to say about making chocolate-covered strawberries yourself instead of buying them. On average one chocolate strawberry will cost you $5-$10 dollars depending on the size, ingredients used, and where you live. All of my ingredients combined were $15 and that was for a full bag of coconut, chocolate chips, and organic strawberries. You could definitely take this cost down to $1 if you were able to pick one large strawberry, and gathered the chocolate chips in the bulk aisle.

The other perk to making these at home would be knowing how fresh your ingredients are. I don’t know about you but have you ever had a bad strawberry? One that was overripe, mushy, and probably sitting on the shelves for days. Those are not for me and I want only the best and freshest ingredients when I make these decadent chocolate coconut strawberries.

How To Make The Best Chocolate Coconut Strawberries

Ok, are you ready to make this delicious dessert? There are a couple of ways you can melt the chocolate but I love to use a bain-mare. This is where you will use a small pot and fill it about halfway with water. Bring the water to a boil and then place a glass bowl on top. Turn the heat down to low and pour your chocolate into the bowl. You will allow the hot steam on the bottom of the bowl to melt the chocolate. This is the low and slow method that I absolutely love and always works out great for me. I hope you will give it a try at least once to see how this method of melting your chocolate suits you.

Another way you can melt your chocolate is in the microwave or just in a pot over low heat. This can work great as well, just be sure to melt slowly to avoid burning.

Once you have the chocolate melted you will remove the bowl from the pot and place it on the counter. Using a plate or bowl, sprinkle the shredded coconut to have space to roll the chocolate strawberry in. You will want to wash your strawberries and dry them completely before dipping them in the chocolate. Having them completely dry allow for the chocolate to stick to the strawberry better.

Set up each ingredient in a station and make your way dipping the strawberry in the chocolate, and coconut and then place on a parchment-lined sheet pan. I like using parchment paper because it allows for a surface for the strawberries to cool on without getting stuck. Parchment paper is my go-to for most things in the kitchen, its a great workable surface.

Once you are finished dipping you can allow the strawberries to cool on the counter or place them in the fridge on the sheet pan.

How To Store Your Chocolate Strawberries

I like to store my chocolate coconut strawberries in a glass container in the fridge. You might ask, “how long do chocolate strawberries last?” I have found that my chocolate coconut strawberries last for about a week in the refrigerator. They can last longer if you place them in a freezer-safe bag and freeze them, I have done this a couple of times and they defrost just fine. I personally just like to make them fresh and eat one or two a day until they are gone and then make another batch. Find what works for you.
