I recently had the opportunity to attend a Hop Harvest Farm Dinner that blew my mind. I had never been to a hops farm and Obendorf Farm was incredible. There was so much that I didn’t know that goes into Hop harvesting and production, therefore I really gained a lot on this tour. This event included a tour of the Obendorf Hop Farm & processing facilities, hand selected beer paired with Chef Keith’s very unique asado style cooking. The food included wild and local ingredients and ended with a tasty s’more sesh. Start scrolling to see everything I got to experience, eat & drink along the way!

Let the festivities begin!
The event started out at 10 Barrel Boise Brewery , you were given a complimentary beer as you waited for your friends & the party bus to show up. I met up with Diana of Boise Bucket list & Sarahi from Sarahifromidaho, I was excited to have them on the tour with me! We all chose the Honey Orange Beer and had to enjoy it quickly before the bus arrived.

At Obendorf Farm we were able to make our way through the processing plant to understand how hops are harvested from start to finish. So interesting to see the different machines and ways in which they separated the hops from the stems and leaves. I really enjoyed being able to meet the people who run the farm as well as educate myself about hops and where they come from.

We got back on the bus and arrived at this gorgeous table with hop vines setting a moody backdrop for the remainder of the evening. Kelsie Stevens & Janna Smith decorated the tables, making them look like they were straight out of a magazine! Perfectly set to enjoy our dinner, company and the beautiful flowers from Leaning Barn Farms.

Hop Harvest Farm Dinner Beer Pairing
Dinner was paired with a different beer offering from 10 Barrel. I was able to gather some tasting notes for the beers for you to be able to understand each a bit better. Shawn Kelso was in charge of creating these beers, he is also known as Big Hop Brewer .

10 Barrel Brewery Beer Selections
Baywindow – Berliner Weisse. 5 IBU, 5 ABV. This is a traditional Sour German Wheat Beer.
Smoothtalker – Pilsner. 35 IBU, 5 ABV. This is a classic German Pilsner. First beer everyone tasted and the one that we poured through the randall. Randall, a device that we attach to our jockey box, fill with citra hops and then allow the beer to flow through in order to pick up additional flavors.

More Beer Options …..
Estonya – Imperial Porter. 25IBU, 11.9ABV. Inspired by a Baltic style from one of our brewers, Tonya Cornett. We rested this beer in whiskey casks. We provided 3 different years of this beer, 2017 – 2019. The 2019 bottles have not been released yet so everyone was able to get a sneak peak of this beer. Should be available December 2019 or January 2020. Featuring Estonya in our Fancy Beer Series portfolio at the pub along with some other incredible beers.
Honey Orange – Honey Orange Ale. 5.5% ABV , 15 IBU More or less a creation from the craft-brewery movement, and also reminiscent of the German style Kolsch. Made from a classic blonde ale and added local honey and fresh orange zest. The result is a nice, crisp, easy drinking summer ale. Lightly hopped with Bramling Cross hops and brewed with two types of European crystal malts.
Lotus Haze – Hazy IPA. 6.9 % ABV , 45 IBU. Emphasizing hop aroma and flavor without bracing bitterness, the New England IPA leans heavily on late and dry hopping techniques to deliver a bursting juicy, tropical hop experience. In Eastern Cultures, the lotus flower is known for its vibrancy, representing a symbol of replenishment or rebirth. We really like the amazing orange, candied grape, and tropical flavors and aromas this Lotus Hop gives off.

Dinner served……
Meat & Greet Smoked Porterhouse …. Reverse seared Porterhouse steak, slow smoked over applewood open flame. Served with a variety of accoutrements.

We had live music at the event by the very talented Spencer Batt, it really created such an amazing ambiance to the evening.

Dinner Menu
The Start : Watermelon Beet Gazpacho …. Fresh, cool seasonal watermelon beet gazpacho with an array of fresh flavor infused vegetables for taste and vibrancy.

The Greens: King Salad – Seasonal salad with heirloom tomatoes, pickled fennel, compressed cucumbers, herbs, greens, and fresh wild king salmon cheek tartar all tossed in a dill chive gelato dressing.

Main: King Over Fire – Freshly caught King Salmon cooked over apple wood fire. Served with fire roasted honey & pistachio crusted heirloom rainbow carrots and broccolini, then finished with a local blackberry wine sauce.

Guilty Pleasure: Top Notch S’mores – Everything made in-house! Graham crackers, chocolate crafted from our “Fancy Beer” series and marshmallow infused with lavender, honey and thyme.
